Mannn, this was an awesome but short trip! Just 90 miles from Miami...

To us, Cuba felt like a mixture of Miami and New Orleans. The music, architecture and hospitality were just like home. It highlighted how much of a Caribbean influence NOLA has and the architecture was identical to the French Quarter. Then, obviously the Latin culture reminded us of Miami.

There was music and dancing everywhere. Also a few second lines. That was all super familiar... The part that was eye opening was their social system and people. I still have a lot of questions...

A very friendly, and sharp person happily deemed themself a "Fidelist". The majority of the restaurants we visited were out of their menu items because of food control (despite fresh and modern decor). There was no internet, cell service, convenient stores--things we take for granted. What's worse is that it could...the city's infrastructure looks like it could support any first world country. The buildings are huge and extravagant. There are giant city squares everywhere, perfect for businesses and foot traffic. The roads are polished and there are national monuments and museums in each part of Havana.. Sadly, the social system has it all stuck back in time.

Somehow though, even with the lack of luxuries, the people are happy amongst themselves and welcoming to visitors, crime is almost non-existent, and the views are incredible. We'll make it back sometime and stay a bit longer, but next time, we'll bring more to share with the people. Can't emphasize any more their lack of the most basic commodities in 2017.
